Testimony

Thankyou Patricia, for leading a beautiful discussion this past Sunday on Elder Samuelson's most recent conference talk titled, "Testimony." What a treasure to hear the honest and sincere testimonies of the sisters in our Relief Society. I felt so blessed and strengthened to be surrounded by women who know and love the Lord and are doing their best to follow Him.

"People do good and important things because they have testimonies. While this is true, we also gain testimonies because of what we do. Jesus said:
“My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself” (John 7:16–17).
“If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
Like Nephi and Mormon of old, “I do not know the meaning of all things” (1 Nephi 11:17; see also Words of Mormon 1:7), but let me tell you what I do know.
I know God our Heavenly Father lives and loves us. I know His uniquely special Son, Jesus Christ, is our Savior and Redeemer and the head of the Church, which bears His name. I know Joseph Smith experienced all that he has reported and taught with respect to the Restoration of the gospel in our day. I know we are led by apostles and prophets today and President Thomas S. Monson holds all of the keys of the priesthood necessary to bless our lives and advance the work of the Lord. I know we are all entitled to this knowledge, and if you are struggling, you can rely on the truthfulness of the testimonies you hear from this pulpit at this conference. These things I know and bear testimony of in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." - Elder Samuelson, April 2011 General Conference

Welcome to Relief Society

We are so excited to welcome four beautiful young women into Relief Society this coming month. Nellie Evans, Megan Mansell, Meghan Maxwell and Kimberly Cox are all graduating from High School, and moving on to great things...including becoming members of a worldwide sisterhood...Relief Society. We love each one of them and have had fun getting to know them.

Danielle Evans is graduating from Jordan High School. She will be attending SUU in the fall. She has always loved to read and write and is excited to study writing in college. As a senior in high school, she has discovered a love of political science and is also anxious to learn and study in that field. She is the oldest child in her family and is wonderful with kids and adores her baby cousins (eighteen years younger). She is very smart and liked by everyone. She has a very fun personality and is a great leader. She loves sushi. Her favorite colors are red, hot pink and orange. She is awesome!

Megan Mansell is graduating from Skyline High School. She enjoys school and has earned two academic scholarships for the University of Utah, where she will attend in the fall to pursue dental hygiene or interior design. Megan is very motivated to do the right thing. She enjoys going with friends to do baptisms for the dead at the temple. Currently, she is taking voice lessons and working at Trailside Dry Cleaners. She likes dark chocolate!

Meghan Maxwewll is graduating from Alta High School. She plans to attend BYU in the fall and get a business degree. She loves to bake and would love to own a bakery one day. Her speciality is making and decorating cupcakes (she made 150 for her sisters recent wedding) as well as dipped pretzels. Meghan is a girl with goals in mind, she knows what she wants. She is very bright and organized and helps her mom organize her things too. She is a wonderful sister. She enjoys working out at 24 hour fitness, enjoys soccer and playing on a basketball team. Her mom says she has an unwavering faith (what a great strength). She is her own kind of girl and has her own style which doesn't change with every wind.

Kimberly Cox is graduating from Jordan High School and will be attending UVU in the fall. She is anxious to find an apartment to call her "new home." Kimberly loves to design...both fashion and home. She has a very creative mind and is always making something. She loves to cook, sew and scrapbook, and of course, hang out with her friends. She is especially fond of Hershey cookies and cream kisses, which makes for a great dessert after delicious chicken cordon blue! Kimberly is attending Pioneer Trek as a final farewell to Young Women's...they will be so greatful to have her because of her positive, outgoing, friendly and willing personality. Her favorite color is purple.

Welcome beautiful girls. We know that wherever you are, there will be women/sisters waiting to greet you and love you just as we do. Good luck with all the adventures your lives are taking you on. And anytime you are home, we'll save a seat for you in the Sego Lily Relief Society.

A shout out to Janet....thanks to your inspiration and great information on 72-hour kits, our family is much more prepared than we were a month ago!!! Last Monday I walked the isles at Wal-Mart and Costco and gathered food and items for our backpacks. I should've gone with a detailed list, but I didn't, so I just tried to remember all the great ideas you showcased! I came home, spilled out all the goods on the floor, and for FHE, we filled our backpacks. I wrote out a 3 day menu as we filled our bags thinking there would be a list that I would make to fill in the gaps and surprisingly, we had enough! The night started off with Heidi being frightened by the thought of emergencies, and ended with her excited about what was in her pack (clothes, underwear, raincoat, hygene items included)! The night was a huge success, and made me think "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." Now, I just need to keep the momentum going!

Sacrifice, Chapter 26

Sister Annette Shaw gave a great lesson today on Sacrifice. "Sacrifice means giving to the Lord whatever He requires of our time, our earthly possessions, and our energies to further His work." I am always touched to hear of the sacrifices of our Pioneers. They understood this truth and willingly did what was asked of them. They are a reminder that with the Lord, we can endure, no matter the trial, and will be ever imporved. "Only through sacrifice can we become worthy to live in the presence of God."

Thanks everyone for the great participation in our Tuesday RS meeting! The meals from your cupboards were great, and can you believe we had too much?! Hopefully, your families were very appreciative to those of you who brought food back home:) A couple of websites mentioned: http://www.everydayfoodstorage.net/ (check out her 3 month supply list to help get your in order), http://www.bountifulbaskets.com/ (order a laundry size amount of produce on Mondays at 12:00pm and pick up locally on Saturday...all for $15.00), http://www.bereadyutah.gov/ (printable family communication plans). Let's all make it our goal to prepare those great car kits and 72 hour kits for our families, Janet just won't have enough if we all show up at her door!!! Finally, if you would like to order the 7-month first aid kit (very extensive and complete), contact Judy Larsen so she can add you to the list.

***Blogger is being temperamental and won't let me paste the recipes. We will be sure to attach them to the email that gets sent out to everyone. And, I'll try later!!!!
